About TREX Space

TREX Space is a public art gallery, project space and working office located in downtown Medicine Hat. As one of the four regional partners responsible for managing the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (AFA) Traveling Exhibition Program (TREX), TREX Space exhibits and promotes the work of Albertan artists specifically. It is also the headquarters and office space for TREX Southeast. 

For the 2020-2021 calendar TREX Southeast is responsible for touring 15 exhibitions and connecting over 20 venues in Southeastern Alberta with the work of 77 Albertan artists. With headquarters based in Medicine Hat, TREX Space positions the City of Medicine Hat as a leader in championing and celebrating the work of Albertan artists.

Through its programming and partnerships with local organizations, groups and businesses, TREX Space aims to fulfill its mandate as a community connector dedicated to growing, educating, strengthening and showcasing local and provincial artistic talent. In fulfilling this mandate, TREX Space positions itself as an integral aspect of the cultural fabric, vibrancy and pride of downtown Medicine Hat. TREX Space aims to:

  • Act as a cultural hub where local artists, businesses, community groups and individuals are welcomed to connect with and experience art
  • Activate and enliven downtown Medicine Hat with free accessible events and exhibitions
  • Strengthen the City of Medicine Hat’s reputation as a provincial and national leader in artistic thought and production
  • Offer opportunities for local emerging talent to develop skills and gain professional exhibiting experience 
  • Add value to and increase the reputation of the Medicine Hat College Art & Design program by offering graduates exhibition experience and the opportunity to work with a curator
