Visiting Artist Program
Feedback from our venues has shown that through our educational outreach programming, we continue to help foster the growth of local art in communities, resulting in stronger local and regional cultural programming at the community level. Our ongoing visiting artist program provides engaging and vital contact between artists and the communities in our region.
TREX provides a variety of options in which the artist(s) can interact with our southeastern communities. Artist talks, exhibition receptions, and visiting artist workshops provide an opportunity for community members/participants to interact with the featured artist(s) in a variety of ways.
Is your venue interested in hosting a Visiting Artist?
Venues may be eligible to host a workshop based on several factors: scheduling, artists availability, budget. Visiting artist programming takes place while exhibition is on display at the host venue; providing the students/participants with tangible examples of inspiration for workshop projects.
Contact TREX program manager Xanthe Isbister at 403-502-8586 or email@example.com to inquire about hosting a visiting artist at your venue.
Artist Talks and Exhibition Receptions:
TREX Southeast provides the advertising and promotional material for each venue in the form of event posters or postcard invites. The TREX program manager attends each event, providing support to both venue coordinator and featured guest artist. The event begins with a brief explanation about the program, as well as an introduction about the artist. The artist then speaks about their work, providing insight on their aesthetic, inspirations, medium, method, and studio practice. They are also available to answer any questions that may arise from the audience. Following the lecture and Q & A, the host venue hosts a public reception for the guest artist(s).
Visiting Artist Workshops:
TREX visiting artist workshops engage participants by providing an opportunity to interact with the featured artist. Each participant has the opportunity to create a piece inspired by the exhibition theme and medium. The workshop begins with an artist talk, then a brainstorming session with participants. The artist provides a step by step demonstration and assists participants throughout the creation of their individual pieces. At the end of the workshop participants will discuss the outcome of the pieces created.
Workshops are free of charge to participants and venues. Advance registration is required, with the number of participants set by the artist. The TREX Program pays the artist CARFAC and travel fees to conduct the workshop.
