Visiting Artist Verna Vogel at Drumheller Public Library
We invited Calgary artist Verna Vogel to conduct a workshop, that engaged sixteen adult participants in visual expression through a hands on project. The workshop theme, Collage Cityscapes was based on the TREX exhibition Eye and the City (which was on display in the library during the workshop). Several steps were taken in preparation of the project; participants discussed qualities unique to a city; the smell, sounds, navigation, as well as a exercise on peripheral vision. Following the exercises, a demonstration on collaging techniques was provided, giving participants the opportunity to learn the step by step process. The process included cutting out a variety of shapes from a selection of unique papers to design a background composition, using matte medium to adhering the shapes to the bristol board, then finalizing the piece by drawing in details using oil pastels, chalk pastels and markers. Fun was had by all and we were extremely impressed with all of the works created.
